Recently, the reporter saw eye-catching "mini" buses in the Shexi parking lot in the initial development zone of China-ROK (Huizhou) Industrial Park of HZZK (Zhongkai High-tech Industrial Development Zone). Though they seem cute and small, you can feel that the interior design is of high-tech through its large portholes, multi-faceted combinations, and sensors around the vehicle body. Entering the bus, passengers feel like they have arrived in a small conference room. There are only three rows of seats in the car, neither the driver nor the steering wheel is needed.
The reporter experienced the feeling of riding a "driverless bus", which runs very smoothly and is comfortable to take. A small folding table is set in front of the seat, which makes people feel like they are on a high-speed train.
Through the screen in the bus, passengers can see where they are in real-time, as well as the arrival time of the next stop.
It is understood that the driverless bus the reporter experienced this time is a ten-seat autonomous bus of the L4 level, with a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour, which is graded to a high degree of automatic autonomous driving. It can drive on a pre-set route, and doesn’t need human intervention without special circumstances. The bus arrives at the stops one by one in the route, and the stopping time is set according to the passenger flow. During the driving process, the bus can changes lanes, avoids obstacles and stops along the road in a fully automated process. Many passers-by were attracted when saw this scene that they took out their mobile phones to take pictures of the "smart bus"
Chen Xiujian, deputy general manager of Huizhou Dongjiang Intelligent Networked Automobile Transport Service Co., Ltd., said: "At present, two lines of driverless buses have been provided in the initial development zone, one is the line of Shexi parking lot and the other is the line of Hongxi parking lot, both of which are in the initial development zone. So long as the citizens arrive at the bus stops, they can take the buses for free. The bus will open the door automatically when it arrives at the stop, and passengers can board the bus orderly.
Previously, Ding Yanchao, Deputy Director of the Electronic Chassis Control Institute of Suzhou Automotive Research Institute, Tsinghua University, said that the large-scale application of "driverless buses" is mainly limited in the technical and legal aspects. In the technical aspect, although the test on open roads was successful, there is still some way to go; Legally, current traffic laws do not allow driverless vehicles on the road.
The city's science and technology enterprises are at the forefront of the country in respect of unmanned driving. At the end of April 2022, Desay SV launched the world's first generation ICP product--"Aurora". It is a computing platform that has made a leap on technology implementation from "domain control" to "central computing", and is the first vehicle-mounted intelligent computing platform which can be mass produced in the industry. It is understood that "Aurora" truly realizes cross-domain integration, based on the core functional areas that include the platform with mainstream high computing power chip of up to 2000TOPS or more, integrated software intelligent cockpit, intelligent driving, and network connection services.
"Driverless buses are still novelties, and I hope that more partners on industrial ecology will join in the future. We will work together to promote the demonstration and application of autonomous driving scenarios under complex driving conditions on public roads, and jointly boost the development of scenarios for high-level autonomous vehicles, intelligent networked buses and so on in Huizhou." The relevant person in charge of Desay SV's technical department said.
